Christmas Day
Merry Christmas to you all! Today we celebrate the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ. Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 52:7-10 our first reading clearly reminds us of the sentiments of today’s celebration saying "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings glad tidings, announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing salvation, and saying to Zion, Your God is King!" Our second reading from the beginning of the letter to the Hebrews 1:1-6 tells us that ‘in times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets; but today, He has spoken to us through the Son.’ Saint John in our gospel reading from the gospel of John 1:1-14 exclaims that the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
My dear friends in Christ, yes we are happy and excited and celebrating the nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ today; yes our God has spoken to us through Jesus Christ His Son and yes the Word has become flesh and dwells among us. So how does the birth of Christ affect our lives today? The nativity of Christ reminds us of what our spirituality as Christians should be all about. It emphasizes some practices that can help, guide and assist us to come closer to God and establish His kingdom in our world today with the birth of Christ. These practices are Adoration which entails worshiping and venerating God. This Christmas season, let us spend some time in adoring and venerating the baby Jesus in His crib in our nativity scenes who has come into our world to grant us new life and salvation. The second practice is Prayer which is our conversation with God. Let us in this Christmas season strive to pray daily and never stop conversing with Him always through prayer. The third and last practice is Humility which involves acknowledging our faults and focusing on God as the center of our lives and not on ourselves. It is time to let God be the center of our lives and by humbly following His teachings and footsteps, live out His gospel in our world today. Amen!
