St. Bernadino was a powerful preacher and confessor, known for his acts of kindness and service to the poor. He turned his back on success, money and power to put only the God who created him first. He died in 1616 and was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1947. His fame occurred after his death when his body was found to be partially incorrupt when his tomb was opened in 1711.
