17th April - Saint Robert of Chaise Dieu
Saint Robert was the youngest child of the nobles Géraud de Turlande and Raingarde at Auvergne, France. He was educated under the direction of the Church of Saint Julien in Brioude. He was ordained a priest in 1026, and later appointed Canon of Saint Julien. Saint Robert founded a hospice for the poor in Saint Julien, and devoted much of his time to their care. He later established an Abbey at Chaise -Dieu from which his community continued to serve the poor while living by the Order of St Benedict.
Lord help me to use my time and skills wisely for the greater glory of your name like Saint Robert, who lived a life of prayer, manual work to provided for his own needs, helped the poor, and preached the gospel of Christ.
