"Daughter, your faith has saved you," said Jesus to the woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years in today’s gospel reading from the gospel of Saint Mark 5:21-43. With these words, Jesus re-echoes the importance of faith in our lives as His children.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Faith which we can neither pick or choose is the theological virtue by which we believe in God, believe all that He has said and revealed to us, and believe in what the Holy Church proposes for our belief, because God is truth Himself. If someone were to ask us if we have faith in God, we will all answer "yes" to that question. But how true is our answer especially when we juxtapose it to the definition of faith as explained by the Catechism of the Catholic Church? Do we really believe in God, because if we do believe in Him, we should be His true examples in the world today. Do we believe in all that God has said and revealed to us, because if we do, then we will not be adamant, lazy, reluctant and scared of proclaiming and living out His gospel in our world today. Do we believe in what the Holy Catholic Church proposes for our belief, since it is from God and God is truth Himself, because if we do, then we will not be challenging, rejecting, criticizing and not living out the teachings and doctrines of the Holy Catholic Church.

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, let us listen to Jesus’s call to deepen and strengthen our faith in Him and let us continually ask Him to heal our unbelief and lack of faith in Him. Amen!
