12th July – Saint John Gualbert
As a young man John followed the militia. One Good Friday, while surrounded by soldiers, he stumbled upon his brother’s murderer, who, outstretched his arms, asked for forgiveness out of respect for the Holy Cross. St. John said to him, “I cannot refuse what you ask in Christ’s name. I grant you your life and I give you my friendship. Pray that God may forgive me my sin.”
